Assisted Living Residence An "Assisted Living Residence" means a facility which is licensed by the Department of Health to provide apartment style housing, congregate dining and to assure that assited living services are available when needed, for four or more adult persons unrelated to the proprietor. Apartment units offer, at a minimum, one unfurnished room, a private bathroom, a kitchenette, and a lockable door on the unit entrance. Assisted Living Residences may require entrance fees, and a period of private payment before a resident may switch to Medicaid. Entrance Fees and monthly costs vary (sometimes greatly).
